Blue Apron Meal Kit Delivery Review

Who is Blue Apron?

Blue Apron’s humble beginnings start in the summer of 2012, with Matt Salzberg, Ilia Papas, and Matt Wadiak testing the first Blue Apron recipes in their tiny New York City apartments. The goal between Blue Apron’s founders was simple: “to make the experience of cooking with quality produce and specialty ingredients accessible to everyone, no matter where they live or how busy they are.” Blue Apron’s origins continued as Salzberg, Papas, and Wadiak hand-packed the first Blue Apron boxes themselves, delivered them to family and friends, and received instant support and approval.

The blue apron itself is a marker for chefs in France, representing a lifelong dedication to the learning of culinary arts and a passion for food. This love of food and food preparation is a key ingredient in the development and continuation of the Blue Apron meal delivery service, inspiring in others their own appreciation for quality ingredients, sensible recipes that are clearly and concisely explained, and a service which puts it toward the head of the meal delivery market.

Four years later, in 2016, Blue Apron had expanded enormously from its small and simple roots, growing as a team which continues to work every day to live and breathe their mission. Blue Apron claims that they send “over 8 million meals per month to our home chefs nationwide, and we have thousands of employees that work across four offices to ensure each customer gets the highest quality product every week.”

But perhaps most of all, what best encapsulates Blue Apron’s mission statement of providing these specialty ingredients and recipes to people comes from the words of Jeremy Carlin, Blue Apron’s Assistant General Manager, who says that “We win together, not alone. We start from ‘yes’. We seek growth and learning, not perfection. We operate with integrity. We are accountable.”

It is rare to find a company whose mission statement meshes so well with the values that they hold themselves to, and Blue Apron achieves this in spades.

Review of Blue Apron’s Service

Blue Apron offers a simple and straightforward meal delivery service for those who are eager to try out something new or are just looking for a way to simplify an already busy schedule. Blue Apron offers a few varieties in their meal plans and a range of options for customizing the number of servings you would like to get, as well as what days of the week you receive your orders.

This review will cover the full range of Blue Apron’s pricing and plans for their meal delivery service, and what kind of options you are given when you select the meal plan that is right for you. You will see how the subscription service works, what information is requested, and how you can select the type of meals that you want.

The review will also discuss the way that payment works when you have signed up for the meal delivery service’s subscription. Finally, the various offers and additional features that Blue Apron provides users via their website will be discussed below, before the final verdict on Blue Apron is discussed in the conclusion.

Blue Apron’s Pricing and Plans

You will begin with selecting the meal plan that works best for you. There are three options to choose from, the Vegetarian Plan, the Classic Plan, and the Family Plan. Each plan allows you to pick between 2 to 3, or even 4, people / servings, and lists the total price per week, ranging between $59.94 and $71.92.

As it is the case with most meal delivery services, you will be required to provide your email contact when initially signing up. This will be used to further the subscription process and will sign you up for a newsletter. If you are not interested in receiving a newsletter from Blue Apron or would simply like to unsubscribe from their mailing list, there is a link provided in every email where you can click and unsubscribe from their service. Keep in mind that this will only cancel the email service and will not cancel your meal deliveries if you are trying to do that.

On the next page you will be required to fill in your address and your credit card information. This will be the address that your meals will be delivered to, so keep that in mind when signing up. Additionally, you will be charged immediately for your first week of deliveries and then once per week after that. According to Blue Apron’s site: “Your card will be charged three to five days before each week’s delivery date, unless you decide a skip an order. If you have the same delivery day each week, you’ll be charged on the same day each week.

Please note that all orders shown as ‘Order Processed’ or ‘Shipped’ in your ‘Upcoming’ page have already been processed and, unfortunately, cannot be changed.”
